This is a reoccurring topic and it seems that everyone is trying to be a saviour of this thing called music we can’t seem to build any further. We’ve had lots of great singers that have come and gone-leaving a strong foundation to build upon, however it seems as if we’ve somehow reached a “plateau” and music keeps on crumbling, disintegrating at a certain height. Artists that are filled with so much soul and show true love for music forever try to rebuild like under paid workers slaving trying to satisfy others more than themselves. The optimistic views of all those that think there is still hope for soulful, meaningful music is truly inspiring. I love the artists that stay true to themselves hoping, wishing and praying that it does come back around to make a full circle. Taking it back to when music was filled with emotions and actually had 80% meaning and 20% groove factor. At this present moment I feel it’s 80% groove factor 20% meaning. I for one live for music there’s a daily intake of music that goes with my routines. As a music lover most of the time my issues lie within the quality of lyrics being thrown out by some of these artists today, beats go together with rhymes/lyrics (when the lyrics have substance). The way I see it Beats are bread and GOOD lyrics are jam or butter. Together they make a good combination. I find myself saying a lot of times “If it wasn’t for the production….” Why I say this…one simple answer I don’t wanna TOTALLY call it bad, it’s still “music”. In the end I am compromising just for the sake of music and just not wanting to knock the artists for trying. What happened to the good/solid songwriting skills? When did we stop caring about the quality of the material placed on a beat? How did we end up with artists singing repetitive hooks and only having 1 solid verse? Not to mention your time’s been cut to like 3:50! Work with it! Come Strong! Back in the days songs were like 7 minutes, but most had 3 GOOD verses followed by so-called crying (Leverts, K-CI…yessssss guilty!) or just the ya ya’s and ooh oohs…At the end of the day it was still effective and you didn’t even notice the song was that long! Please artists stop having your team choose songs that you CANNOT relate to, listeners pick up on that stuff and guess what we’re gonna say….We’re not feeling it! It was just alright…but the beat was good! As a female I love a good crying tune that I can leave on repeat just so I can cry and feel sorry for myself or maybe say “artist your right, I don’t need him NO MORE!” Lyrics most of the time are what get you, because you can relate to the artist. For the sake of music lovers-put some emotion into the songwriting skills, go back to telling stories PLEASE!
